The Ego Says Wait. The Soul Says Go. Release the Resistance. l S2E088
In this soul-stirring episode, Linda Orsini explores the powerful topic of resistance—the quiet force that holds us back from shining our light and living in alignment with our deeper calling.
Drawing inspiration from The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, the sacred writings of Richard Wagamese and the timeless words of Marianne Williamson, Linda gently guides you through a journey of recognizing resistance for what it truly is: fear in disguise.
Linda shares:
- What Resistance Really Is: How it often shows up as procrastination, doubt, or fear.
- Perfection Paralysis: Why waiting to do things perfectly keeps us stuck.
- Ego vs. Higher Self: The tension between staying safe and choosing growth.
- Amateur vs. Professional: How showing up consistently shifts everything.
- Fear as Resistance: Recognizing fear as False Evidence Appearing Real (a phrase shared by Elizabeth Winkler and davidji) and learning to move through it with love.
With her signature mix of honesty, compassion, and spiritual insight, Linda reminds us that when we choose love over fear, even in the smallest ways, we begin to live from a place of truth and service. This episode is a tender encouragement to honour the call of your heart—even when it feels scary—and to trust that the act of showing up is enough.
Ask yourself: Where is resistance holding you back, and what small step can you take today toward flow?
If this episode stirred something within you, I invite you to leave a review or share it with someone who might be feeling held back by fear or self-doubt. Sometimes, all it takes is a gentle reminder that they’re not alone—and that their light is needed too.

Resistance. Do you ever feel resistant to
Speaker:something? This is a big topic, and today
Speaker:we're diving into it because you're going to learn how to break
Speaker:through resistance from fear to flow. I'd
Speaker:like to begin by sharing that I just finished reading this
Speaker:really awesome book, and it's called The War of Break
Speaker:Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles. It's
Speaker:written by Steven Pressfield about twenty years ago,
Speaker:and it's packed with wisdom for anyone who
Speaker:is battling resistance. And, yeah, he
Speaker:does he does swear in this, and he's a little crass,
Speaker:but there's so many gems that shine through because he
Speaker:is no stranger to resistance. He actually had quite
Speaker:a challenging journey, being a creative
Speaker:writer. But you know, you don't have to be a writer, a musician,
Speaker:an artist to feel the blocks of resistance.
Speaker:Resistance shows up in our daily lives. You know, when
Speaker:somebody asks us to do something and our first reaction is no.
Speaker:Or, you know, we we have this inner calling
Speaker:to maybe grow this this magnificent garden
Speaker:or to redecorate our home or or
Speaker:to engage in a volunteer
Speaker:project that may feel overwhelming or scary,
Speaker:we meet resistance. And resistance is real and
Speaker:relentless, honestly. Resistance will say
Speaker:anything to stop you from doing what you're meant to do. And you know what?
Speaker:It's a lie that we tell ourselves. It's just a distraction.
Speaker:It's it's the doubt within us. It's sneaky and it's subtle
Speaker:and it's always there, guess what, when
Speaker:something really matters. I like
Speaker:to often think of it as perfection paralysis.
Speaker:You know, when if you feel like you can't do it perfectly,
Speaker:then you don't want to do it at all. You may not have that. I've
Speaker:I find that I've had that in the past, and now done
Speaker:is better than not done. And just taking
Speaker:away that resistance that sometimes, he even says in
Speaker:the book, shows up as procrastination.
Speaker:I'll give you an example. So when I want
Speaker:to start something new, right, I I feel like,
Speaker:oh, you know, I don't have enough time. I I have to block more time.
Speaker:I have to get this done first. I have to read through my emails.
Speaker:You know, I don't have all the credentials
Speaker:for this. There's so many little sneaky things that come up
Speaker:as resistance. Now if you're not in the, line
Speaker:of work, you could be like, you know, this year, I wanna start my
Speaker:vegetable garden. Oh, well, you know what? This plot of land
Speaker:doesn't get enough sunlight or, you know, the rabbits are eating the
Speaker:vegetables or, you know, there's so
Speaker:many stories that come into our mind
Speaker:and act as resistance. And what we wanna do, I feel,
Speaker:is really notice them. Notice where
Speaker:resistance is showing up in your life and then
Speaker:doing something about it. And that's what we're gonna learn about here because what
Speaker:he talks about is that there's two kinds of
Speaker:people. In the first one is the amateur
Speaker:who waits for inspiration and the professional who
Speaker:shows up every day. And that could be in
Speaker:any area of your life. You know, you're waiting for the
Speaker:inspiration. You're waiting for the perfect time. You're waiting
Speaker:for this. You're waiting for that. That's just resistance
Speaker:from the ego that's sneaking up on you. But you know
Speaker:what? The time is now. Right? The time is now that
Speaker:you can decide where you're feeling resistance in your
Speaker:life and how you can shift it, how you can show
Speaker:up. Now as I said, the ego
Speaker:versus the self, that's what it's about. Where is the
Speaker:ego sneaking up on you? So the
Speaker:self, the higher self, always wishes to create, to
Speaker:evolve. But the ego the ego likes
Speaker:things just the way they are, you know. Play it
Speaker:safe. You know. Don't take a risk. This can be
Speaker:very detrimental in your life because if you notice
Speaker:where your ego is sneaking in here versus
Speaker:your higher self, then you can pause. You can take a moment and
Speaker:decide, am I gonna listen
Speaker:to my ego or am I going to listen to my higher
Speaker:self? Now that is not always so
Speaker:easy because what happens is it's
Speaker:fear. Fear sneaks up on us,
Speaker:and fear is something very real. I
Speaker:my guru, my meditation guru is David g, and he
Speaker:says fear, f e a r, is false evidence
Speaker:appearing real. You've heard of that before. Right? And then he has
Speaker:suggested through, his colleague,
Speaker:Elizabeth Ringler, fear fear existing
Speaker:as resistance. And this is exactly what I'm talking
Speaker:about. Fear is resistance. It thinks
Speaker:of every reason why we can't,
Speaker:why we don't, why we shouldn't, why we're not smart
Speaker:enough, old enough, young enough, skinny enough, pretty enough, talented
Speaker:enough, rich enough. All those reasons
Speaker:that act and look like resistance, but they're really
Speaker:just fear. And when I say just fear, I don't mean
Speaker:that it's simple because fear is big. That's what a call for
Speaker:love is. It's about noticing when you're in a place of fear,
Speaker:and fear can be all those emotions,
Speaker:stress, anxiety, resentment, jealousy, all
Speaker:those negative low vibrations, and it's shifting. It's a call
Speaker:for love. So when you're feeling the fear,
Speaker:I like to place my hands on my heart. Literally, I stop. I place
Speaker:my hands on my heart, and I think, okay. This is really
Speaker:scary. Is it a deep
Speaker:calling? Is it a deep calling coming from beyond
Speaker:me, Or is this something that I'm
Speaker:pushing? I call it manic manifesting. If it's
Speaker:manic manifesting, it's coming from the ego. But if I
Speaker:feel this creative desire that needs to come
Speaker:out, then it's coming from something greater than
Speaker:me, and then I really really take notice. I
Speaker:love Richard Wagamese. I refer to
Speaker:him quite a bit, and I'd like to share this beautiful
Speaker:passage that he wrote. He
Speaker:says, Today, once again, I surrender my gift
Speaker:to Creator and ask that it be directed,
Speaker:channeled through me, every word, phrase,
Speaker:sentence guided by her intention.
Speaker:Then I sit and write
Speaker:and watch the great mystery expelled upon
Speaker:the page. This marvelous gift
Speaker:has become my life by virtue of my always remembering
Speaker:where it comes from, and claiming only the
Speaker:discipline, dedication, sacrifice,
Speaker:and commitment as my own. All else
Speaker:is creators. If art is not spiritual,
Speaker:it suffers from our human limitations.
Speaker:Oh my goodness. Isn't this true? Isn't this beautiful?
Speaker:It's we the the power that we have when
Speaker:we're faced resistance on doing something that needs to be done or we feel
Speaker:really inspired to do.
Speaker:Our role is showing up, being disciplined,
Speaker:dedicated, and making the sacrifice and commitment
Speaker:to do so. In episode 33
Speaker:on A Call for Love, I talk about this very thing,
Speaker:Fuck, Fear, Show Up, and Shine. Sorry to swear, but that was the title of
Speaker:the episode. It's like when I created this this podcast,
Speaker:who was I doing it for? Right? I felt
Speaker:this huge desire, need
Speaker:deep within me to serve in a way using my
Speaker:voice. And so I had
Speaker:to show up every week, and I turned it to
Speaker:every second week just because of time commitments.
Speaker:And now I show up every second week.
Speaker:You know, I may face my fears in total transparency.
Speaker:There's not an episode that I don't have a little fear. A little
Speaker:fear of judgment from others, a little fear of, you know, do I
Speaker:know it? Do I know what I'm gonna share? Does this make sense? Is
Speaker:it good enough? But really, really, it's just the ego.
Speaker:When I surrender, when I give it to spirit or creator or
Speaker:whatever you call the higher beings, the higher essence,
Speaker:then I know that it's just coming from my heart. And when you are
Speaker:coming from an authentic place that's real within you,
Speaker:really, is it wrong? Is is it untrue?
Speaker:You showing up, you doing the human aspect
Speaker:of putting yourself out there and then allowing spirit to
Speaker:move through you crumbles, breaks down
Speaker:that that wall of resistance because resistance keeps
Speaker:us small. It keeps us small. It stops us
Speaker:from shining our light. Resistance will tell
Speaker:you everything to keep you from doing the work.
Speaker:It from being the creative being that you are, From
Speaker:volunteering at that new place that is is begging for
Speaker:people to share their love and light. You know, if you
Speaker:are past the the days of working,
Speaker:there's so much still that the world needs from
Speaker:us. They need our creative self in terms
Speaker:of our light, in terms of our passion. I know
Speaker:that my parents always volunteered, right? Right
Speaker:until they couldn't any longer because of their health. And they
Speaker:really instilled that in myself and in my
Speaker:siblings. You know, it's about serving. It's about
Speaker:putting ourselves out there and sharing our
Speaker:gifts. So when you're noticing that fear,
Speaker:it's it's standing up to it. It's resistance
Speaker:that is appearing.
Speaker:It's false evidence appearing real. It's not
Speaker:real. Resistance is not real. It's just trying to
Speaker:keep you small. And so the more sure we
Speaker:are of something, the more we feel it in our
Speaker:heart, the more it's begging
Speaker:us to follow through. Right? What doesn't scare you
Speaker:grows you, I always say. I make a lot of my decisions that
Speaker:I feel like this pull from my heart to do something, and
Speaker:then I'm like, oh, well what about this? Well, what about that? Well, what about
Speaker:this? And then I know, oh, you
Speaker:know, this is just resistance showing up. This is
Speaker:my ego scared if I'm gonna
Speaker:fail. But you know what? If I
Speaker:really stand true to myself and believe in
Speaker:it, then something greater could happen. And I love
Speaker:this. It's from the Bhagavad Gita chapter two verse
Speaker:47. Krishna was talking to Arjuna on
Speaker:the the battlefield, and he said, you have the right to
Speaker:your actions, but not to the fruit of those actions. And this
Speaker:is ancient wisdom. Right? Because just like
Speaker:Steven Pressfield relates it into his book, The War
Speaker:of Art, it's how it's received, whether
Speaker:we'll receive it, will we be good enough. But, you know,
Speaker:our work is calling to us. Doctor. Wayne
Speaker:Dyer says, How may I serve? How we are serving
Speaker:ourselves in this moment is our
Speaker:calling. And you know, if we are true to our
Speaker:calling, if we feel that it's coming from a place
Speaker:of loving kindness, then we can give
Speaker:up and we can surrender to what comes from it.
Speaker:And that's the key here, is that what you can
Speaker:control is you showing up. Just like Richard Wagamese
Speaker:says, you showing up. You doing the work. Right?
Speaker:Doing the hard work. And then allowing
Speaker:whatever ever fruits come from it to just spill
Speaker:out. And I read this book, four thousand
Speaker:Weeks. I can't remember the author's name, but it was very inspiring
Speaker:because he said, A hobby is something that you
Speaker:love to do that is almost embarrassing.
Speaker:Okay. So one of my hobbies is playing guitar, and it is embarrassing.
Speaker:I'm not very good at it. But I do it because I love
Speaker:it. Right? I'm not worried about the outcome.
Speaker:I just do it because I love it. And I think I've said this
Speaker:before, I knit. I just love it. It's sometimes embarrassing
Speaker:when I pull out my knitting, but I still love it. And it's
Speaker:doing something that you love. It's showing up and
Speaker:then giving it forth. Right? If it's something that's coming
Speaker:from your spirit, from your heart out of kindness for
Speaker:yourself and others, then it's the right thing. And
Speaker:then it doesn't matter if one person likes it or
Speaker:1,000,000 people love it. It matters
Speaker:how you are showing up, how you are evolving your
Speaker:soul, how you are standing in your light and
Speaker:not shrinking. This is the key.
Speaker:And so when we think about resistance, it's
Speaker:about surrendering as well. It's about surrendering
Speaker:the outcome and knowing that, you know,
Speaker:it's all okay. It's the evolution
Speaker:of our soul. And when we surrender,
Speaker:then we can stay grounded in our purpose instead of our
Speaker:performance. We create to serve.
Speaker:We create to heal. We create to connect.
Speaker:But if our purpose is to impress, even if
Speaker:we're a philanthropist, even if we're doing something really
Speaker:important for the world. But if we have this ulterior motive
Speaker:of getting something back in return, oh, am I great? Aren't
Speaker:I great? Or, you know, this is this is so helpful, or I'm doing
Speaker:this for for so and so, or for recognition.
Speaker:No, no, no. That's not a pure intention. When our
Speaker:intention really comes from a
Speaker:deep place of serving,
Speaker:then we can let go of the outcome knowing that
Speaker:we are doing the best we can. And I
Speaker:really ask this of the listeners, A Call for Love. Where
Speaker:are you showing up in your life? It doesn't matter how old you are.
Speaker:Right? It you could be two, 20 two, or
Speaker:a hundred and two. How are you showing up? How are
Speaker:you creating? How are you creating love? How are you creating kindness?
Speaker:How are you creating peace? How are you creating a new garden?
Speaker:How are you creating sustainable products,
Speaker:living lighter on our planet? How are you creating
Speaker:yourself in order to evolve your
Speaker:soul, noticing when resistance is sneaking its its
Speaker:head on you, and just, like, befriending it.
Speaker:Right? I notice you. I notice I'm shrinking back.
Speaker:I notice that there's fear. You know? And then really breathing
Speaker:into it, placing your hand on your heart, acknowledging it, and
Speaker:then moving forward. That is the thing.
Speaker:It's moving forward. If we could move
Speaker:forward, then we can be who we are meant to
Speaker:be. And so now I would like to end this
Speaker:episode. So I shared the book The War of Art and,
Speaker:Richard Wegami's, beautiful passage. But I'd now like
Speaker:to share the poem from Marianne Williamson. I've shared
Speaker:this on many retreats, but it's very, very powerful.
Speaker:And it goes like this from Marianne Williamson. It's called Our Deepest
Speaker:Fear. Our deepest fear is not that we are
Speaker:inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are
Speaker:powerful beyond measure. It is our light,
Speaker:not our darkness, that most frightens us. We
Speaker:ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,
Speaker:gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Speaker:Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of
Speaker:God. Your playing small does not serve the
Speaker:world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so
Speaker:that other people won't feel insecure around you. We
Speaker:are all meant to shine as children do. We were
Speaker:born to make manifest the glory of God that is within
Speaker:us. It's not just in some of us. It's in
Speaker:everyone. And as we let our own light shine,
Speaker:we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
Speaker:As we are liberated from our own fear,
Speaker:our presence automatically liberates others.
Speaker:Isn't that so beautiful? When we
Speaker:give ourselves permission to shine our own light,
Speaker:we give that same liberation to others. You know,
Speaker:resistance is real, but showing up, as
Speaker:Steven Pressfield says, as a pro,
Speaker:creating consistency and intention, showing
Speaker:up, then we can surrender the outcome and
Speaker:offer it to spirit, offer it to our higher
Speaker:selves, and let fear guide you towards your
Speaker:purpose by calling in spirit. And so I ask
Speaker:you, when you open up to create, to serve, and to
Speaker:show up, whatever way that looks like, It's
Speaker:about taking that first step and even if it feels
Speaker:small. So to break the bonds of resistance,
Speaker:begin by setting a simple intention. Ask yourself,
Speaker:what's one thing I can do today? Then you show up
Speaker:for it. It's all about consistent small actions that
Speaker:honor your creative spirit. Start where you are
Speaker:with what you have and trust that each step will lead you
Speaker:closer to where you're meant to be. So thank
Speaker:you from the bottom of my heart for listening through A Call for
Speaker:Love, this really, really important topic
Speaker:about from fear to flow,
Speaker:releasing your resistance. And if this stirred something in
Speaker:you and you wish to share it with a friend who has maybe
Speaker:experienced a block now, then please share the
Speaker:link or leave a review. And spread this
Speaker:message of love and service. So from my heart to
Speaker:yours, Namaste.
