Let's begin.

Linda Orsini:

Welcome to part two of my interview with Sanjeewa Paris. If you didn't get a chance to listen to part one. Go back and listen. It was a very valuable conversation. We talked about how to relieve an ease in your body before it becomes diseased through ancient Sri Lankan air Aveda healing. You can find the link to part one in the show notes. But today we are deepening the conversation by discussing three main Ayurveda treatments use for centuries to help cleanse, heal and increase the longevity and quality of your life. First we talk about punch of karma, which is a five part cleanse to help clean out your stomach and bowels. In Sri Lanka, I actually participated in this cleanse and I have to tell you, that I feel fantastic having gone through three of the five steps for as long as I can remember I have suffered from digestive issues. I've been plagued with leaky gut and h pylori and nasty bacteria infecting the lining of my stomach. So the punch of karma was so good for my body. And the punch of karma is voluntary, as a sign of spirit of life and SriLanka. But regardless, you do get to experience the amazing and I mean truly powerful treatment to relax your mind and prove your sleep and increase your spiritual awakening through listen is called Shirodhara Shirodhara is the treatment of having herbalized air Vedic oil consistently poured over your forehead, from temple to temple to relax and open your third eye. It's really unbelievable. In the show notes, I share links to videos I personally took to show you the journey of punchy karma and sure dar treatments. Lastly, there is the synchronized of Bianca massage. All just like you imagine the unbelievable healing qualities that two skilled air Vedic massage practitioners can have on your mind, body and spirit. Just to let you know I truly enjoyed my talk with Sanjeewa Paris because he has a wealth of information and skill. His therapeutic massage training began in 1993 and has since grown and he's perfecting his skill every day. He worked for two years with the head doctor of the government of Ayurveda department in Sri Lanka. Then he spent another two to three years studying the marma points and massage techniques for healing handed down from the ancient traditions of the Sri Lankan monks. One of the most famous air Vedic doctors from Sri Lanka actually took him on as a private student, and taught him Ayurveda medicine, theory and philosophy for two years. He's worked in many famous Sri Lankan Ayurveda hotels in Sri Lanka, before opening up his healing retreat centers. At the signing spirit of life, which has become like its own family. Please check out the show notes for related links and resources at the end. But for now, let's begin.

Linda Orsini:

The last episode we talked about the sign in spirit of life, and how important the healing and therapy is through massage. And today I'd like to focus a little bit more about Ayurveda the science of life. I know it's very complicated, and it probably would take a long time so just abbreviated as best as you can. To somebody who's not very familiar with Ayurveda

Sanjeewa Paris:

Ayurveda the journey, the word is the meaning of the word, either is life time away there is if you're doing like science, so if you do something to increase your lifetime, is called weather. So that's the meaning of the word but

Linda Orsini:

to increase your your wellness of life, it's increasing

Sanjeewa Paris:

your life extensive life lifetime. Oh, if you're doing something to, to make, even you're eating and everything, everything you do, it's like But what we do is we're doing a bunch of karma. Let's say

Linda Orsini:

I had that.

Sanjeewa Paris:

So it's famous.

Linda Orsini:

Yeah. Well, because I was I have a lot of yoga friends. And they said, Well, you can do a bunch of karma. I'm like, Well, I Yes, I will do a punch of karma. And then I had to research what it was. Yeah, I'm always so eager, but I'm really glad I did it. So say if somebody doesn't know what that is, can you just quickly tell us what it means and the procedure because I saw a doctor and it was very, I felt really taken care of and done properly.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah. Punch of karma is simple. It's five kind of process or five times is slanted. So cleanses process it's like not yet most cleaning some oil or herbs into the nose to cleaning. And the second one is warm and throwing up vomiting. We make a woman that cannot third one is Rekha you drink or get some some pills. And then you clean from sour moments. Yes. And then next one is was the that you pump something from?

Linda Orsini:

From the back and it's called the enema, but we didn't have that. Yeah,

Sanjeewa Paris:

no, no, we don't do vomiting. We don't do because it's kind of tricky. And this cleaning we don't do

Linda Orsini:

so it's the most because I'm having the nose treatment. Yes. So it's some Ayurveda pills. And drink powders. Yeah. And then I was cleaning. Yeah. And then I did drink the juice where it does cleanse out. Yeah. Yeah. But it was very uninterested. Yeah, it was very fine.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah, yeah. Because we are doing giving you like one because it's people from Europe and so on. So we have given this this is a king coconut one. So we put some herbs into King coconut in the night you call it and close it and put some herbs and close it and keep it outside in the night. So yeah, like the moon like yeah, in the moonlight. So it gets with this moisture, it gets some reaction inside. So drink in the morning, you'll figure it like seven times. At least you find it filtering is very important. They say more you filter modality. We like filter it for seven times normally. And then you drink it and then you drink only coconut water.

Linda Orsini:

After so I did drink I took several videos. I took a whole drink. kinda looked like a mango watered down mango juice. Yeah. And then then I drink coconut water. Yeah. And I felt really good because I do have suffer from digestive issues. And I know in the doshas, which are your three? Well, how would you explain a dosha?

Sanjeewa Paris:

dosha is like what a cup of three elements? What is air? Yeah, it is fire. And copper is like water, the coolness? These are the three elements that mean need life need to extract exist. Wire, air and water. Yeah, this thing when it comes into the balance of Earth started. And so we have all three elements, right rebalancing Earth. That's why the lifestyle. So for example, say if you want to keep something that's longer, long term, what we do is we take one element out, we normally put it in the fridge to keep it longer, right? Yes, so that means the heat, we taking out not heat, the life can't start the proper heat is not dead, the light the germs, they can't start they are living there, because there's no not enough heat for them. So there's an uncertain thing he needed to start line. And next, we take error, we make it to the cans and press it, push it, take the air out, you can keep it longer preserving, preserving so out one element, we took it out, so its president and then we can dry it. So we take the water out. So you can't live can't really dehydrated. So we are living with the three elements, we have to keep it in balance. That's so we are giving a really good condition. Earth is a really good place for life. And we have to give also things like it's also Earth Mother Earth is the body. So we are keeping these three elements nice and balanced. And so hoping that you live longer. You're healthier. Yeah,

Linda Orsini:

balance. And you know, it's funny because I my horoscope sign is a Libra and that's a balance. So I really find that I have to work to maintain balance. And so air Veda is the science of life through balance. Yeah, yeah. Balancing which is kind of like the yin and the yang. Yeah. I just want to share with Sanjeewa and a call for love listeners. What punch of karma is what is known here. You don't have to it's always an option right when you come here because I know that a couple of them I choose that this time Yeah, they just wanted the treatments. What are the treatment is really sought after here? Like what do people when they come here? I know you have the head massage the face massage the foot and hand and body intense and, and specialize. And then what's that show their share? Daraa this year Daraa?

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah, the, the older massages are like normally it's connected to protocol. So Panchakarma has like, let's say notably, yeah, that we have we divided into three pieces not cleaning. We say main first we say starter. It's like preparing you for the next thing. Yes. So then mainly, that means no skin and how to behave after this is the part after the matrix. So Nasik cleaning, we have to make you ready. First, you need several head massage before you have the most thing so really good head massages really during develop really good one

Linda Orsini:

a lot. There's someone like isn't there a lot of acupuncture points in the head? I'm guessing there. Yeah,

Sanjeewa Paris:

yeah, there's a lot of nerves are in there. And so there are a lot of places I learn about so I made them massage is really good standard. And you need at least few massages before then at least there needs to be shoulder as before. And I had three Yeah, that's because then we are like waking up the plant. This is a plant it's like water.

Linda Orsini:

So this whole I bet a lot of the listeners don't know what a shirred are. It's

Sanjeewa Paris:

yeah, sure there is you have to lie on this

Linda Orsini:

that there's a neck roll and yeah, and to support the server.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yes. So consistently warm oil drop off oil, consistently. Put it over your head, back and forth, back and forth for half an hour. And this is normally after head massage. Yes, so it goes together that's very nice, you know that we are waking up and then treating the phlegm so then it's getting really softer so when we when we clean the nose it's everything is coming up and you can breathe much better and you know start to get this now back and then if you look I have a little bit more air now. So it's you feel much free that's helping thing and also it's really helps to get a good sleep and calm down and

Linda Orsini:

and ruminating thoughts I think it helps release all those running thoughts in your mind doesn't it helps with the mind like

Sanjeewa Paris:

you really go deep sometimes for some some people when you have stress and we have a lot of things that you feel you know you don't want to put it out sometimes they cry and it's good it's good coming out so you're alone and it's really good time

Linda Orsini:

we always say in yoga what no longer serves you I say to my life coaching clients we don't we want to let go what is not in our highest good but I feel that that was a really really powerful now when I had it in Canada they just drifted just on the third eye Yeah, but here I notice and I do have a video where it goes across like temple to temple to temple and such a consistent pace Yeah,

Sanjeewa Paris:

that's very important that because if you do it too fast Yes, yes. Definitely low man and oil has to be mostly warmed and then it's really nice and it's also effect more more calm down and then you come to yourself and there's any dumb things in your head it can come out so Mind Body

Linda Orsini:

Spirit practice Yeah, it's very powerful. I really enjoyed it and I know that I respected it because they said after you know don't have gold in the water stay out of the sun lie down rest because you want it's kind of you want to help your body move through that Yeah.

Sanjeewa Paris:

So it's it's good to give a little bit of time and for the treatment to you know work because it's a lot of work going on in the head after this treatment. Yes so that's why you need to if you do a lot of body work then this blood is also going back to the body and then it's the treatment don't affect much. When you go into water what happens is you can get ear infections because all the copper copper it's like water the plan is coming up to the head. So in this time there it's that's why it's the can clean it out. Yes. So that's why we say don't go into water. It's not good for the treatment.

Linda Orsini:

The aerobatic doctor said that it was really and then today I had the synchronized massage where two people and they have the exact same pressure and the exact same move met very, very skilled.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah, because my job is to train therapists I trained for for a lot of places. So when I thought I was always I'm to do workplace with my own, because they don't give me a right time to come. And I told you in the first one, that I at least you need 15 years to train someone, and they tell me three, three months, six months is Come on, I'm joking, I always wanted to train myself very well, so that they can recall therapy so the clients can get quality treatment, because that's what I were there. And we are also little mixing up the the traditional Sri Lankan medicine, traditional massages, and so on. So, the quality, people have to see this. Otherwise, if, if I want to place it, I can show this to the people. It's really my job is not?

Linda Orsini:

Yeah, it's very all the treatments that you have here are very, very powerful. And I feel like the more you have them, like at the beginning, you know, the intense massage, I was very sore in my body. Yeah. And now I feel like I can actually relax more, because the knots are going Yeah, and then it's more pleasurable, because you're not going in, you know, like, biking up because it's painful.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah. It's also, you know, sometimes because we go in the right place, right place, and we know exactly where the block is, and it's so painful. So that is totally understand that. But that, that means that you have a blockage there. So in the beginning, it's difficult for you, you know, but in the end, the blockages are going then you can really enjoy the treatment. Wow. Now, really, the blocked is gone. Now I can enjoy the treatment. It's more an of course, we are going to push you little by little more and more and more and more little by little, but then more you enjoy and you say no, no way.

Linda Orsini:

Yeah, it's, it's true. And I love when you face down and looking at flowers. And then all of a sudden you have the herb inhalation. Yeah, with the pot of boiling steamed water underneath your face because there's a hole in in the little cupboard. Once in that steamed water.

Sanjeewa Paris:

That's a lot of herbs, fresh herbs and dried herbs. So it's good for the to clean the nose clean the breathing air. Yeah. Yes. So it's clear up. It's very good after Amazon and shield Daraa and totally for one package. So it really

Linda Orsini:

is beautiful. Yeah, yeah, it's like a steam for the face. I was thinking you know, often put facials in Canada. They put steam on your face. Yeah, yeah. So it was like a little bit of a facial. One last question that I really wondering about is what is the difference between Ayurveda in India? Versus like maybe not all Sri Lanka. But let's say your Ayurveda at the Simon spirit of life, like how is that how, what's the same, what's different?

Sanjeewa Paris:

It's let's say the treatment wise treatment quality of our one is my much high standard. We do two in one. So that's why our treatments are much higher standard. When somebody come here, that's why they always say this is the best treatment place ever. Because I'm a therapist for more than 30 years. Now, that really kills me too, because I develop these techniques because sometimes things are really boring. It's come from the old books or so I didn't change it. And I saw some improvement you can be done after some time. I thought this improvement has to be done because it's really to stretching and do because it's also helping us to clean the lack when it comes to point massage. When you properly stretch before it's easier for you, you know, because you're stretched before several times before you get a special deep massage. That you are also stretched and nicely built up to this.

Linda Orsini:

Yeah, they do. They just stretches like I saw my leg being moved and I twist it was I almost feel like there was a little I don't know if you know it here. osteopath, the spine they just kind of shift your spine to realign maybe chiropractor? Yeah, yeah, but I feel like there's more than just massage.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Yeah, because we do the whole structure you know, we treat the whole structure and your body so also the spine and to flexible exactly which you know where it should be and all this detail wise, we think about this and every massage you know, we twist you in the right way right direction, so you have more flexibility. It's easy for your yoga and it's easy. Normally to make you

Linda Orsini:

I say agile, agility, flexibility, mobile Yes, yeah. I love the food too. So if we have the three meals a day, and all the four or five tastes Yeah. And it's really catered to health and wellness for your mind, body and soul, right? Yeah, yes.

Sanjeewa Paris:

I also like cooking. And I always, you know, look how my mom used to cook how other like grandparents used to cook. It's really in a really natural way, how they use the coconut, how they use the spices, the fresh spices, how they use it. And nowadays, you go to shop and buy power law. That's it, but they have to take the real spices do it in this in the stones and so on. I always loved the states, and it's much different. So I try to I try to do it special spices, special things. And also, I don't want to give like a very boring tutoring website, whether it's boring. Come on, it's like, tough on all directions.

Linda Orsini:

You know, you know, when you take a picture of it compared to let's say, when I go back to Canada, it doesn't look well. Often. The plates are very colorful, because they're arranged in a really beautiful bouquet. But it doesn't the picture does not do justice of the flavors. Yeah. Because you know, you have every flavor included. And it's just wow, burst of flavor. So it's really delicious. Everybody

Sanjeewa Paris:

like and I you know, I set up the menus to Oh, do you? Yeah, so I want it not to be boring. Because you can eat healthy and really good taste because we have a lot of spices and we want to make it nice. You you taste a little bit Sri Lanka, you know,

Linda Orsini:

traditional, like I had the hoppers last night. Yeah. Yeah. And when I was coming to Sri Lanka, my sister had, my brother had sent a video of Sri Lanka and they had showed the hoppers. Yeah. And my sister says, let me know when you're when the hoppers and it was very

Sanjeewa Paris:

delicious. Yeah, normally we do it in a live right.

Linda Orsini:

Yes. So yeah, it was like yeah, the shaft. Video,

Sanjeewa Paris:

I think the origin is like up because I like stay long pauses in yours. But the hope was, I think origin is for Lanka. And this is really an Indian language. We have a big difference in food and health. Yes. It's also use courage. A lot of courage. Yeah, courage, courage. But we have kind of more spices in it.

Linda Orsini:

Like there's a lot of spaces. Well, I like the spice store in my I have a suitcase. I take a little bit of Sri Lanka with me. But anyways, thank you since you but really for the sign in spirit of life. And we I look forward to hosting a retreat here in February or March of 2024.

Sanjeewa Paris:

Oh, thank you, Linda. Thank you very much. And it's pleasure to have you here. And thank you for having such a wonderful time.
